Magazine Ancillary Product Before Importing The Main Image

This image is here to show you how my magazine cover was getting to well I take and edit my main image for the front cover. Here you what my magazine will be having in the skyline and the tagline at the bottom of the page. You can see what type of colour scheme I have used in my magazine product for my ancillary product. I believe the colour scheme fits perfect for the horror genre magazine as this shows the audience that it is aimed at people who are interested in horror films. The colours I have used are red, grey, black and white. As all these colours have sub meaning to it, I will be explaining this in a different slide to show you why I have selected these specific colours in my magazine cover. I might be changing few things before I finish/present my final product on the blog, But I will letting you the audience know what changes might be happen in my ancillary product for marketing The House Guest.

The Different Types Of Posters

Before creating my own poster, I have first looked at different types of posters to see what types of posters were getting released by other film industries.

Teaser Posters are an early promotional step for a film. These teaser posters are known as an advance poster to attract the audience before all the big marketing happens. These teaser posters contain very basic image or design the excitement to be built for the audience and have excitement around the film without revealing much information, as this keeps the mystery around the film. A teaser poster includes the tagline to create a memorable dramatic phrase that will sum up the tone and premise of the product, or to reinforce and strengthen the audience's memory of a literary product, and it has the date at the bottom of the page so the audience know when the film will be releasing. One of best example is that when the Dark Knight was released, film industry released the Batman logo, they can hint the target audience what might happen in the film.

A lot film industries use Character Posters to market their films to the audience. These posters contain an individual from said film. These posters can show how each of the characters in an film are represented to the audience and this gives the audience a chance to see how characters are in an film. I can use something like this for my film posters as this will will give my audience a chance to connect to the characters being shown in my film. Not a lot of horror films do character posters but I believe character posters would be good for my film as it gives my audience a chance to see the characters in the film as characters are a very strong aspect of my film.

Theatrical Posters are the type of posters that are released near the date of a films release and are showcased outside of cinema.Theatrical posters are a key role in posters as they are the main posters for a film and show the key aspect of the plot, characters, location and actors etc. They are a very crucial posters to a films success for the films marketing companies.

From the research for the different types of posters, I will be including an teaser and theatrical posters for my film.As this will be time consuming so that is why I have chosen to go with the teaser and theatrical posters so the audience will get to see one of the posters for my film as each of them will show the basic information needed by my audience. All of the posters created by me will be disturbed on social networking sites as this is what my target audience use on a day basis.By using these poster types, I will have the opportunity to have as much marketing strategies as possible for my film product.

Shot List Drafts

Shot List Draft 2,
In the image you can see the second draft we have created for our trailer for The House Guest. You can see how each of the scenes will be place in the trailer. This also tells you how long each of the scenes in the trailer will be. This Shot List just explains how we might structuring our trailer when finishing the final product. This draft is just to show the audience that the team of The House Guest film can take the trailer in many different paths.

Shot List Draft 3,

Here is the third draft of the Shot List for The House Guest. Again the team of the film have made a draft of how they would like to see the trailer for the film in a different way from the first one. Showing the audience how they can see the trailer in many different ways. This is why we have created another Shot List so the audience know that we can approach this product in many ways and show that we have put a lot time into this film.

Shot List Draft 4,
This Shot List draft is the last one we have created for The House Guest trailer. As you can see this one is a lot more in depth as we hope the trailer to be going in draft 4 order as we think this is the best one from all of them. As you can see in this draft you can see how long each of the scenes will be and what shot number the scenes are in the trailer. You can also see that what order the scenes go into the trailer. This shows the audience how the trailer will be set out when marketing this film to the targeted audience for The House Guest.

All of these drafts are to show how will be setting our trailer out when marketing the film to the audience. These drafts also tell the audience what types of scenes we are having in the trailer and how we are showing a little part of the story line to them. These drafts will be put into Windows Excel with what types of sound and audio we will be having in the trailer. We will also be putting the angle of the camera so you can know what type shots we have in the trailer and how the angles are representing the horror in the film trailer.

Stuart Hall And The Theory Of Encoding And Decoding

This theory is about how media messages are produced, circulated and consumed, proposing a new theory of communication. Hall said that the meaning of a media text is not determined or fixed by the sender, the message is never transparent and the audience is not passive recipient of meaning. He says that there is a "lack of fit" between the moment of the production of the message (encoding) and the moment of its reception (decoding). In other words people interpret media texts in different ways, depending on their cultural background, economic standings and personal experience, and also that the audience members can play an active role in decoding the messages of the text and are capable of changing these messages themselves.
Audience Response
Oppositional: When they understand the text, but reject the message, they come from an oppositional position
Dominant: Seen as the hegemonic response, people share the code and preferred reading
Negotiated: They accept what the text is saying, and adapt it according to their social background.
These are the three different types of ways the audience reads the text according to Stuart Hall.

Annotated Hand Drawn And Computer Based Ancillary Product

Here is the hand drawn front magazine cover idea and a computer based version to make it very clear for all my audience and to make clear where all my content is going to be on the screen. I have placed the main image in the middle of the page as I want the main image to standout to the audience more then any other sub-image on the page. This also means that the audience will see the main image first, before anything on the front cover. As you can see that the main image is overlapping the title of the magazine as this tells the audience that this film is more important than the magazines title and that will interest the audience more into the film. The sell line are on the right hand side as well as the left side, this means that although this will be seen last some more time will be spent on reading the sell line which in turn means that the audience will spent more time looking at the magazine cover. I have also included a puff/pug to keep the audience interested in the magazine they are reading, to mean them on their toes.

Stereotype Theory

This prezi explains the stereotype theory and how negative women are shown in the media. This will also show how I have used the stereotype theory in my groups trailer. How we have gone against the theory to show women are not the weaker ones in a horror film. They are strong as male characters in horror films.

Shooting Schedule

Friday 20th November - The shooting begins, we will be starting with the opening scene of the trailer. Which is where Logan is running in the woods at the middle of the night. I believe that it will be better to get this scene out of the way as we will be filming at midnight. Also this scene will be coming to the trailer quite a bit so will be starting filming this in about 2 weeks.

Saturday 21st November - Here we will be filming where Amelia's car breaks down. She knocks on the door, tells Aaron and Logan about she needs our help. We will be filming this on this day as 28th November is the day we can get the props for that scene and film the prefect scene we all have the image of in our mind.

Sunday 22nd November - This scene includes Aaron, Logan & Amelia sitting eating dinner and watching TV. Logan will be vlogging this but the reason we have decided to film this scene on this is because this is the day when the domestic house location we are filming this is free.

Monday 23rd November - We will all be filming more scenes on this night as we will be having the house all to our production team. This gives my group a chance to film most of the night scenes which we will be including in our trailer. Also will be filming most of the short clips which will be included at the end of the trailer. This is because the way we have put the scenes together, we will be filming the short clips on this night with other big scenes.

Monday 23rd November - We will also be filming a scene where Amelia is standing outside in the middle of the garden when it is very dark. The garden light will come on by it self as it turns on when someone walks past in the dark. We will be using this to wake Logan up as the light is very bright.

Monday 23rd November - This day we will be filming day time scene between Aaron, Logan and Amelia. This when Logan finds weird things happening around the house when he is vlogging and Aaron is playing a game.

More shooting schedule will be coming later on as we still haven't finished our trailer scenes. I will be informing you as soon as possible but in the mean time, this is my groups draft for the Shooting Schedule. Feel free to comment back on what we should include into our horror film trailer, thank you.

Shot List for The House Guest - First Draft

Here are the Shot List for my groups media project. As you can see the information above shows you the different type of mise en scene we are using in our trailer. This explains everything that you need to see what shots we are having, what type of framing we are having in our trailer. As you can see we have not yet finished the shot list, we are currently still working on the whole thing but in the mean time we have produced this one until we finish the whole thing. This is just to give you the information you need from us for our film.

Screenplay - The House Guest

A screenplay is film script that shows the audience what type of mise en scene the film campany has added into the horror film they are creating. This is screenplay for my groups trailer, The House Guest. We will be sticking to this screenplay but we might produce more ideas during the filming. This screenplay enables me to give you the overview of what we will be including. This screenplay is not finished yet as we as a group still haven't finished the whole script yet, as soon as that is finished, we will be giving you the full copy of the screenplay. The screenplay below me shows you how the story starts, more is on its way.

Recce

The presentation above is the Recce for my film. Recce is when you to visit and taking pictures of where I + others in my group plan on shooting. Also where I consider the issues that we may arise when filming, including lighting and access to these location. My group has been given permission to go and film in these location as one of them is a private property, but is still a little bit public. I will be shooting on the public site rather than the private but I have still gotten permission to film on both.

Location Research

This slide includes information on location for horror films. I have explained how horror films use different location to make the film relate to the audience. I have taken the research from the location presentation and I will be using these types of location in my trailer as I will be following the conventions from the horror genre. this presentation just explains what different location they to use in an horror film.

Fonts, Buttons Design

Here are some of my fonts I will be using in my Film Poster and Magazine Cover. As of now I have not yet decided which font I will be using in my front magazine cover and poster. I will be creating a questionnaire just for my fonts, I will be letting the audience choice the font for my media product. I have decided this because my target audience will know what trope text or font attract them to an media product. All of the fonts on this page are linked with my horror film product. I believe linking the font style with the horror genre will help my film as the audience can relate to the product being presented to them and also gives my data on what type style my audience like to see in a horror film product.

Final Plot Idea

Characters
Aaron Trescot - Sohail
Logan Thompson - Brandon
Amelia Blake - Nicola

Plot
Aaron and Logan are room-mates but sadly can’t pay rent. So they decide to get another room-mate so they can then start paying some of the rent. They end up getting a girl called Amelia Blake to be their new room-mate. The first few days of her moving in are fine but then one day Aaron goes to work and leaves Logan at home with Amelia. This is when weird stuff starts happening like weird noises and things turning on and off randomly. Logan investigates these weird goings on and discovers Amelia is possessed. He tries to tell Aaron when he gets home but Aaron doesn't believe him. Logan tries to get footage himself on a camera. He thinks he catches her doing something but when he goes to check the footage it’s a video of when Aaron and Logan first moved in together. Logan watches the footage and sees Amelia standing hidden in the background. Logan then sets up hidden cameras round the house. On one of the cameras Amelia Is stood over Aaron whilst he is sleeping. He then becomes possessed by her and they both start to haunt Logan by always staring at him round the house. After few days, Logan finds footage that shows him, Aaron and Amelia standing by Aaron's bed shaking, and Amelia goes up to the camera when Aaron starts shaking in the background, Amelia is walking up to the camera and says ‘I'm coming to get you (laughs) I'm coming to get!’. Logan is watching the video in Amelia's bedroom when Aaron walks by the bedroom and sees Logan in Amelia's room. Logan sees Aaron's shadow in the corner of his eyes, he drops the camera and runs out of the apartment. Logan tries to escape Aaron and Amelia, and in the rush Logan runs into the woods where it is very dark. Logan runs and runs until he thinks it's far enough from Aaron and Amelia. When he stops to take a break, few seconds later Amelia shows up behind him (laughing) and says ‘you think you can run away from me’ (laughs). Logan runs again, while he is running, Logan trips on something and falls down, and when he gets up, he hears footsteps moving around him, he turns his phone flash on to look around his environment, after that he puts the flash on his face and that is when Aaron comes from the back and gets him.

Feminist Theory & Male Gaze Theory

As part of my research I have collected information to show how I will be not objectifying women in my media product. This slide examples everything how women have changed in the media and how the media represents women, I have shown this through the Male Gaze Theory. The Feminist Theory tells the audience how women fought for equal rights in political movements in the mid 19th and early 20th century. This slide examples how the feminist movement has processed through the years.

Horror Film Pitch

We as a group have created a Horror Film Pitch to show my class and some members of staff in the 6th Form I am currently attending. I had to present this pitch to about 30 people in a classroom to let them know what I will be creating for my media projects. This presentation explains everything that I will be including into my trailer, poster and magazine cover. This explains every question that my audience wanted to know from me.  In this pitch I have information my location, recce, USP, target audience and etc. This pitch examples everything the audience need to know about my Horror Film Pitch.

Plot Ideas Development

These are the Plot Ideas we as a group have came up with for our Horror Film Project media. This gives a outline of how our trailer will be presented to the target audience. The plot gives the audience a little information how the trailer I set out and what type of characters we have in our horror film. This is showing the audience a little information on the characters and how they are represented in the film. Also shows the feminists public how we are going against the Male Gaze theory in the horror trailer as we have made the female character main/evil character in the film.

Padlet discussion on Animatics

A preliminary version of a film, produced by shooting successive sections of a storyboard and adding a soundtrack. I will be using Animatics to produce my storyboard for my media project. I believe using Animatics will be a good way to present my storyboard to my audience as it makes it look more professional and shows the audience how I have used different types of software when doing media.

Audience Research. Results From Questionnaire.

Sohail Qureshi A2 Media Studies

Audience Research. Results From Questionnaire.
I have sent out my questionnaire to 100 people, but I have only received 44 responses. This is one of the negative points of a questionnaire due to the low responses I have been given back for my media product. However 44 responses is a suitable rate for a general idea of my local target audience. My questionnaire being semi-structured, I have both qualitative and quantitative data from the questionnaire.
Most of my Target Audience will be aged from 17-19, and will enjoy watching films. However if the results show that my audience are over the age of 19, I will be changing the age rate of the target audience for my media product. Also my questionnaire will give me more information on horror films, this will make me understand how horror films are enjoyed or not enjoyed by my Target Audience.
Results & Analysis
This is the results for gender that are preferred to the product that I am creating is very important to as this shows me how to develop the product to a specific gender and how I can be successful. In my case it is mainly females who enjoy horror films however, males still watch and enjoy horror films. Therefore I will be thinking about both genders when creating all of my products. Most of the responses were from females but I will target all of the genders in a way that is suitable for both genders to enjoy and to ensure the product's target is a mass audience.

The Research I have collected back shows me the age of my target audience. The target audience should be the age of 17-19 and 23+, this kind of agrees with my hypothesis and this will show me to have suitable content for this age group for the products. Most of the responses I got were from age 17-19 showing me a perfect age to aim most of the product at but still aim it at 23+. This result will not be representative to the whole public. However this provides me with a rough estimate on how the public will be.
This result shows me how many people enjoy watching horror movies in my target audience. The responses are positive for my media product as most of the population like to watch horror movies. However there is still a high percent of the population who do not watch horror movies, and the percent being 33.3%. I will be looking at this to see why they do not enjoy watching horror movies.
These responses here show me why some of the population do not watch horror movies. Most the population do not watch horror movies are because they are too scary for them and a little cliché for their taste. The result from this question tells me why some of the population don’t enjoy watching horror movies. This helps me as I can try and change their mind from my film product that I will be producing.
The results here show me how much horror movies my target audience watch every week or month. The results show that most of the population watch once or twice a month. This helps me as this tells me how much horror movies the audience watch per month and how advertising I will be needing to do and how much time the audience have on them. two of the option in this question have the same percent so I will be making an estimate of how people will be watching my media product. I can now make an estimate of how much of the population should watch the my horror film product.

After analysing this question I have been able to confirm who the audience may watch the horror movie with or how other audience can know about my horror movie from the target audience. A lot of the public watch horror movies with their partner, friends or alone. This helps me to how much my horror movie can scary.
The responses I have collected back from my questionnaire show me that a lot of horror movies make the population scared and nervous when watching an horror movie. This tells me how the audience feel watching an horror movie. Not a lot of people feel excited when watching a horror movie, and I want to change that for my horror product. I want my audience to be scared, nervous and excited when watching my horror product. Collecting the information from this question, I will now be making my horror movie more exciting for the audience, making it scary and nervous for the audience. As you can see there is a high percent of the audience being confused when watching an horror movie, percent being 12.5% this is a high number of people being confused while watching a horror movie. I will be taking this back, and I will be making my horror product easy to understand to my audience, making it clear what the storyline is when watching my horror product but I will not be giving all of the storyline away in the trailer or other products that I will be creating.
I have received most of the responses on isolated locations for my horror product to be based in. I will be taking in all of the responses to analysis what type of setting I will be using, as the audience want more isolated location. However I believe that I will be using all of the settings in my trailer at some point to create more suspense throughout the film as the audience will always be on edge as they will have the knowledge about the settings that are in use.
The responses I have received back from my questionnaire tell me that psychological horror is a popular subgenre for my target market, however action horror is the second sub genre the most popular which might enable me to combine both of the genres together to create my horror product. So this will provide me with a larger demographic to present my horror product.
This question shows that most of the population prefer a horror movie to be based on a real life event. Half percent people who answered this question believe that they prefer a real life event horror movie. I will be taking this in action when I come to creating my horror product, even though the audience prefer a real life event horror movie I might take my horror product to an extent rather than making it all real life event.
The responses in this question tell me that lot of my audience are not frighten of gruesome aspects in an horror movie. So I will be taking a different path to frighten my audience in my horror movie. I will add some gruesome aspects but to an extent, I don’t want the audience to be bored while watching my horror trailer. This has helped as I now know what type of special effects I need to add to make my audience scared.
This question results tell me that my audience prefer not to know the storyline of the film to be shown in the trailer. I will be giving a teaser of the storyline but I will not give the whole plot away in the trailer like other horror movies. I will be keeping the audience on the edge for the storyline.
This question just tells me what my audience expect to see in a trailer. what type of convention they notice or would like to see in my horror trailer. I will be using all of the features as this is what makes an horror trailer, and I want the audience to be attracted to my product very easily. This tells me what stands out to the audience when watching a horror trailer. Using these features in my trailer to make the my product stand out from other horror trailers.
The name ‘The House Guest’ got the majority vote on this question. Due to this results I will be calling my horror movie ‘The House Guest’ as this is the name the target market approve of. This shows me what my target market thinks for my product name, rather than me just choosing it and the audience might not have liked it. This is a clear result which name I need to go for my product. I needed to be sure what my target audience wanted from me and now I know what path I need to take for the name of my movie.
These are the short qualitative data responses I have received from my questionnaire. This allows me to gain a small insight to how my audience think. From analysis of these responses, I have noticed that most of the people want an ending where most of the characters die and some want the ending to be a cliffhanger. I have noticed that horror movies provide a psychological of thought which develops emotions for my audience. I have also noticed that horror movies lack a plot twist at the end of the film, I will be looking at that so my audience can be approved by the product I am creating.
This overwhelming result shows me what type platform my audience watch movies on. This tells me that I need to be distributing my product on different platforms rather than having it on one. I have decided that I will be showing my film on every platform but it will come out first in the cinema and then go into other platforms.

Audience Demographic Research

Here you will be able to see my Audience Demographic research, as part of my research I have now included to show what type of audience will be aiming my media products at and how they can engage and react to my media products. Showing different category of how the "society" has placed the audience and how everyone "fits" in their category.
